In My Shoes : Exploring the Root Chakra

I have been working on this project for over a year now. It is an exploration in to the chakras and a bit of a visual autobiography.  I dabble in an out of it as I feel inspired.

It started after a friend lent me the book Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss I loved how this book connected many loose philosophical strings for me and boiled everything down to 7 principles.  This also a big inspiration for the creation of The 7 principles of Inspired Living.

I started with the 1st Chakra : THE ROOT CHAKRA

I had a pair of shoes that I really loved, but they were falling apart so I decided to glue them to a canvas I had lying around.  The idea actually came before I read the book mentioned above.  But after it all made perfect sense.

WALK MY TALK.

LIVE MY TRUTH.

I hesitated on painting it red. Why? Who knows, but once I got the courage to do it, I loved it! The courage came after a distance Reiki Session with my friend Selome, where my root chakra came up as an area needing attention.

HEALING THROUGH RETELLING.

MY STORY IS SACRED.

Around the same time I started a drawing that explored what I call my Space History - the spaces I lived and what I remember of those spaces as I have grown up.  Then I began musing on the first space being the WOMB. I also depicted the legs and feet as ROOTS. See the drawing below. I decided that this drawing also made perfect sense as part of this root chakra piece.

Through this process I am allowing myself to be VISIBLE in new ways.

I LOVE mY FAMILY.

I HONOUR MY ROOTS.
