Paper Bliss : Cut Stories

I have this thing with Paper. Cutting it. Writing on it. Gluing bits together. Wrapping gifts in paper, Reading words on it.

There is something tangilble. Something about the tecture against the hand that taps into the intuitive nature. something anout the ease + the delicacy. The temporary yet permanent nature. The strength + the ephemeral notes.

Obviously I love PAPER + STORIES so when I came across Béatrice Coron she was an instant inspiration as she leads us through her creative process. I love that her path to being an artist was not linear, and she found this art form when she was 40.

I also enjoy Coron's play on words and her creative manifestations. I am drawn to the content of her art and the web her stories weaves.

In My Shoes : Exploring the Root Chakra

I have been working on this project for over a year now. It is an exploration in to the chakras and a bit of a visual autobiography.  I dabble in an out of it as I feel inspired.

It started after a friend lent me the book Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss I loved how this book connected many loose philosophical strings for me and boiled everything down to 7 principles.  This also a big inspiration for the creation of The 7 principles of Inspired Living.

I started with the 1st Chakra : THE ROOT CHAKRA

I had a pair of shoes that I really loved, but they were falling apart so I decided to glue them to a canvas I had lying around.  The idea actually came before I read the book mentioned above.  But after it all made perfect sense.

WALK MY TALK.

LIVE MY TRUTH.

I hesitated on painting it red. Why? Who knows, but once I got the courage to do it, I loved it! The courage came after a distance Reiki Session with my friend Selome, where my root chakra came up as an area needing attention.

HEALING THROUGH RETELLING.

MY STORY IS SACRED.

Around the same time I started a drawing that explored what I call my Space History - the spaces I lived and what I remember of those spaces as I have grown up.  Then I began musing on the first space being the WOMB. I also depicted the legs and feet as ROOTS. See the drawing below. I decided that this drawing also made perfect sense as part of this root chakra piece.

Through this process I am allowing myself to be VISIBLE in new ways.

I LOVE mY FAMILY.

I HONOUR MY ROOTS.
